PENSIONERS' DAY HELD AT BANGALORE ON SATURDAY, THE 19TH JANUARY, 2013.

A REPORT

19th January is a memorable day for LIC Pensioners in Bangalore ! For, it was on this day (in the year 1996) that the FIRST BATCH of Pension cheques was released by Bangalore DO I, whichheralded a new chapter in their lives ! This change-over assured them of a regularincome through-out their life and the consequent economic independence !

To commemorate this event, LIC PENSIONERS' WELFARE ASSOCIATION, BANGALORE,organizes the PENSIONERS' DAY on the 19th of January every year and honours thesenior Retirees, irrespective of their affiliations, on this occasion. Incidentally, thisprovides the unique opportunity of a GET-TOGETHER of old friends and colleagues forreminiscing their decades-old association !

This year, the Executive Committee decided to honour 14 veterans aged over 80 years,the oldest of them being 93 years young and strong ! All of them responded to our invitation positively, except one who had determined not to accept any such honours,in principle. Sri S.S.Nagaraju, Manager (OS/PA), Smt. I.K.Shobha, Manager (OS), Bangalore DO I, participated as our Chief Guests and honoured the veterans.

After invocation by Smt. V.Bhagyalakshmi, Sri A.Balasubramanya, President, briefedabout the significance of the occasion and extended a hearty welcome to the ChiefGuests, the Veterans who had accepted our invitation to receive our felicitations andthe large gathering of Members and well-wishers. He also informed the House thatSri R.KrishnojiRao, Sri C.V.Balakrishnan and Sri K.M.Srinivasa Murthy were not able to be present on account of their physical incapacity and they would be honoured attheir respective residences subsequently.

S/Sri H.S.NarahariRao, J.S.RathnaRoyan, R.Shivashankar, T.Shivashankar, K.S.Premchand, M.C.Chandraiah, V.Byataraya, N.Sridhar, B.K.Vainatheya and P.G.Raman were honoured with Woolen Shawls, basket of fruits, stainless steel lunch plates and bouquets bySri S.S.Nagaraju, Smt.I.K.Shobha, S/S S.R.Krishnaswamy, G.K.Jaisinghani, P.Narayanadas, SitaramBhat, B.C.Vishwanath, D.Bommaiah, N.N.Ayya andS.A.L.Murthy. Sri S.S.Nagaraju, Smt. I.K.Shobha, Sri H.K.GururajaRao and othersoffered their felicitations to those honoured and wished them good health and peaceful long life. S/S T.Shivashankar, V.Byataraya, K.S.Premchand and B.K. Vainatheya appreciated the gesture in reply and thanked the Association for the honour.

The meeting came to a close with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Sri S A L Murthy, EC Member.

30th of January 2010 was an eventful day for the Members of

" LIC PENSIONERS' WELFARE ASSOCIATION, BANGALORE ". The following FIVE veteran Pensioners ( Members & non-Members) were invited for this year's honour :-

At our invitation, our All-India leaders, Sri S.K.Shukla, President, AIRIEF, Sri V.C.Jain, General Secretary, AIRIEF, & Sri R.B.Kishore, Vice President, AIRIEF, graced the occasion.

The proceedings commenced with an invocation by Smt. V.Bhagyalakshmi. Respectful homage was paid to the memory of our colleagues who parted from us in the recent past, the legends in the field of Art & Culture in the StatE of Karnataka, viz., Dr. Gangubai Hanagal, Dr. C.Aswath, Dr. Vishnuvardhan, Sri K.S.Aswath & Smt. Chindodi Leela and the veteran Leftist leader, Sri Jyothi Basu, besides Father of our Nation, Mahatma Gandhiji, by observing a minute's silence.

Sri A.Balasubramanya, President of the Bangalore Unit, extended a warm welcome to the visiting All-India leaders, the invitee Chief Guests of the day and the assembled Members and well-wishers. Then Sri D.Hanumantha Rao, Sri R.Vittal and Sri B.S.Subramanya were honoured with SHAWL, FRUITS & BOUQUET by Sri S.K.Shukla, Sri V.C.Jain & Sri R.B.Kishore respectively. Sriyuths K.Sundara Rajan, Byataraya and G.Krishnaswamy recalled their association and felicitated the veteran colleagues and wished them a healthy and happy life, with a sense of fulfilment. In reply, the Chief Guests expressed their happiness and appreciated the gesture. Sri A.Balasubramanya profusely thanked them for responding to the call and gracing the occasion despite the discomfort incidental to highly advanced age.

Our All-India leaders were so impressed with the event, they also honoured the three Chief Guests with shawls. Sriyuths S.K.Shukla, V.C.Jain and R.B.Kishore addressed the House, explaining the multi-pronged strategies that are being adopted to realise our long -pending issues and hoped to see a break-through in the near future.

After a TEA BREAK, the House reassembled for the 14th Annual General Meeting, presided by the President, Sri A.Balasubramanya, who welcomed the Members present. The Minutes of the previous General Body were read and recorded. Sri N.Narayana, General Secretary, tabled the Secretary' Report, and Sri B.S.Gopalakrishna, Treasurer, tabled the audited Statements of Acounts. There was a lively discussion in which Sriyuths T.Shivashankar, B.S.Subramanya, K.Sundara Rajan, among others, participated, after which the Report & Acounts were adopted unanimously.
